Final Day in Kangundo

Big wrap-up day in the rural area of Kangundo!

Maggie finished teaching her floral arrangement class.

These arrangements used flowers and greens we purchased very inexpensively in Nairobi - $5 for a dozen roses!!

The women were very excited to learn how they can use so many of the plants that are in their yards to create beautiful pieces. In the centerpiece below, all the greens and most of the flowers are ones that women brought today.

It was also the final day for the sewing workshop. The 4 women and 2 men who met with Ann and Ingrid in the new community center (built for the women's group for work projects like this and their ongoing projects such a soap making, which is making a profit) worked hard for two days making bags, aprons, runners and baskets. Again, the women learned or refined skills that will be useful to them as they eke out a living for themselves.

This was also our Special Needs Kids Game Day! There is a set of volunteers working with this underserved population here, and they don't just work with children – some of the participants are over 30 years old.

A couple of the coaches sporting their new T-shirts...

Violet, the woman in red on the right, is the instigator of these game days for the kids.

Lisa, one of our team members, secured enough T-shirts for the kids and for their parents.

These were two long and fulfilling days for us and the community. Tomorrow we head back to Nairobi.
